67 days and a wake-up...

It was a quiet, but fairly productive weekend. Friday night I worked the crop at the store - good sales that day, plus I managed to get out a bit earlier than usual.
Saturday was spent making a trip to the recycling center, the local grocery store, and organizing some of my trip stuff. The weather on Saturday could be best described as "unsettled" - drizzle, downpour, bright sunshine, downpour, bright sunshine, overcast, windy, WINDY, clear. Fortunately, I managed to get the errands that took me out of the house done during a lull in the rain.
Yesterday I did laundry, major litter box maintenance, dishes, more trip preparations, and finished getting my unused scrapbooking stuff ready for this coming weekend's yardsale and packed into the car to bring to the store tomorrow when I go to work. I really hope I sell lots of stuff at this one.
In other news,
etainwilson's warning about refrigerators playing possum seems to be right on the money, damnitall. The fridge seems to require regular circuit breaker flipping, which, while an easy thing to do, is a pain in the ass. Note to self: Call GE today and find out if this model typically has this kind of issue.
There have been no noticeable changes in Boomerang's health. He's been on the prednisone for over 4 weeks (2x daily dosing for 1.5) and while he loves getting the bit of canned food that I mix the crushed pill into, he still has the same elimination problems and, if my scale is correct as of this morning, he's now under 10 pounds. He goes back to the vet this Friday for a weight check while I'm working at the store, and when I pick him up, I'm going to talk to the vet about how long a future he might have. I don't think it will be much longer... :(
In more upbeat news, my travel plans continue to come along. Etain, I've decided to bite the bullet and look into renting a car, just during my time in Lewis (2 days). I finally found a website with the local bus timetables over the weekend and just from my quick perusal of them, I'm going to be severely limited in terms of where I can go, how easily I can get there, how long can I stay on arrival, and how the heck do I get back to Stornoway from here? Meh. There are at least 2 car rental companies in Stornoway (I'll be staying in Laxdale, about 2 klicks away), and one company has cars with automatic transmissions. I've put inquiries in to both of them - hopefully I'll have responses when I get home tonight.
I'm also looking forward to responses from a couple of Harris tweed producers/retailers - I found their websites as well and I really want to give both of them my business - and a touring company in Orkney that offers a comprehensive day-long tour of all the Stone to Iron Age sites on the West Mainland of Orkney. I still plan to visit a couple of the sites on my own, but the tour price is reasonable, so why not? There's also a company in Inverness that runs cruises on Loch Ness from about 4 miles outside Drumnadrochit - I want to make arrangements with them, too.
I'll also be making my ferry arrangements for the Orkneys this week, since I can do that online. I still need to find a place to spend the night in Glasgow - I should do that this week. I also need to figure out how I'm going to get from the hostel in Drumnadrochit to Inverness in time to catch the bus to Ullapool (and ultimately the ferry to Lewis), and how I'm going to get from Stornoway to Tarbert (on Harris) to catch the ferry to Uig on the Isle of Skye. Both of these are bright-and-early-morning deals when bus service isn't early enough, so I may be reduced to taking a cab or some sort of car hire.
That's it for now, I guess. I expect to be hearing from
genevieve2006 about her newest pending arrival (son #3), whose due date is next week, but could probably show up at any time.
